Peer Coaching Session #1 with Ilio Papastefanou: Thursday January 19, 2012

- Ilio is finding her time management a little tough, and needs coaching around this. She always feels tired, and tasks are taking her longer to complete than normal and she is feeling a little burned out. - Ilio, her husband and her son live in a small suburb near the mountains outside the big city of Athens. - Ilio is married and has a son. She takes him to daycare in the morning and picks him up at 3:00 PM. She mentioned that she is not that consistent in terms of the time she takes him to the daycare. - She goes to bed after midnight and gets up between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM depending on what time her son gets up. - I asked her if she gets a good night sleep but she said that she does not because her son gets up during the night and when she gets up with him, it takes her some time to fall back to sleep. - Ilio is a free-lance translator and works everyday from home. She really enjoys her job. - Her husband has a busy job at the airport and he usually comes home late at night at 10:45 PM. Then Ilio and her husband have dinner late, and then they spend some time together. - Ilio finds herself watching TV late at night which she does not really like doing because most of the time it is mindless and takes up precious time from sleep. - I asked Ilio if she has quiet time for herself during the day and she said not really. She sometimes spends time reading fiction novels or journelling but it does not give her the feeling of being "centered" and in control. - Ilio shared that she just found out that she is pregnant with her second child, which I acknowledged to her as great news and a cause for celebration. - She said that once her son comes home from daycare around 3:00 PM, she has to play with him and keep him occupied at home which makes her very tired. - We discussed the fact that in today's modern society with big cities, advanced telecommunication devices, and high demands on on our lives, our quality of life has decreased and we do not seem to have enough time for spending with family and friends. - I commended Ilio for all that she is doing currently in her life, such as trying her best to be a good mother, a good wife, and good worker and a good home maker! Takeaways from Session #1 - Ilio said that she feels better already after today's session because she came up with six items for her action plan that will help her to feel more rested and in control of her time and her life (see below). Action Plan from Session #1 (1) Ilio will try to stop watching "mindless" TV late at night. (2) She will then try to go to bed earlier i.e. before midnight. (3) She will try to get up at the same time every morning, say, around 7:00 AM, in order to get things ready before taking her son to daycare. (4) After bringing her son back from daycare, she will try to go for a walk by herself in the mountains, and this will be her quiet meditative time, a time when she can feel more centered. (5) When her son comes home from daycare, she will try to take him outdoors more for play time and she finds this does not make her as tired as when she stays home with him and plays indoors. (6) She will also try to coordinate with another mother with a similar age child to have play time and socializing time together outdoors.
