Career Coaching Session #1: Tuesday 17 September 2019

You are currently 33 years old and live at home. You went to Bishop Anstey High School up to CXC. You found Bishop to be more of a negative experience. You took POB, Food and Nutrition, dropped Spanish, Integrated Science, Geography, Maths, English Language, English Literature. You graduated in 2003 from Bishop's and then went to London to do your A Levels. You took Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Law and finished year 1. You then went to Jamaica for a year to study business. You did a 1-year certificate in Psychology. You went to UWI and did a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology and Criminology and finished in 2011. You also obtained a MBA from Anglia Ruskin University. After UWI, you worked in various administrative jobs, did some tutoring, worked for an NGO called Child Line. You a Research and Policy Assistant at the Office of the Prime Minister, which you would rate 6.5/10. You are an OJT placement at $8,000 per month. You are writing a letter to the Permanent Secretary for a full-time contract position. The pay and the growth in your current lob are limited. You are doing Social Science research which is a position that is only available at three Ministries within the Government You prefer jobs that are a little more in the background and not so directly dealing with people. You are open to working in private sector and/or to migrating away from Trinidad. Career options that you have thought caring professions, youth, even small children, Occupational Therapy. You have progressed to like jobs that involve social policy planning and implementation, where you work indirectly to impact people and society. You enjoy research, theory, writing. You also have an interest in owning your own business one day. You would like to work for an NGO like the UN or UNDP as long as the contract is a good term like one year and a reasonable salary.
