Career Coaching Session #1: Tuesday April 24, 2012

- Brandon’s E-mail address is coolbrandon_7@hotmail.com - Brandon is currently 18 years old and is looking for direction in terms of his career. - He completed high school at Trinity College in 2010, and got his Form 5 CXC's. His subjects and grades were: (i) Maths - 1 (ii) Physics - 2 (iii) Chemistry - 2 (iv) English - 2 (v) Biology - 3 - He also completed Lower 6 at Trinity College, and started Upper 6 against his desire, and decided along with his Principal in April 2012, not to complete the year and site his exams because he was really not motivated to finish. - He also investigated with his Mom whether to apply to Maple Leaf School, but cost is an issue right now. - His Principal from Trinity College would give Brandon a very good reference anytime because she liked his personality very much. - He is friendly and outgoing, and likes helping people. - He is a good athlete and currently plays for the Under 19 field hockey team at Trinity. He is a good mentor for the younger players and is able to keep his cool when others lose theirs. - Ideally, He would like a career where he works with people, and where he can still have his own family. - Brandon listed the following as some of his perceived strengths: (i) He can be focused and hard-working when doing something that he likes. (ii) He is good as a team player in any environment (iii) He is a good mentor and leader to younger people (iv) He has good emotional control and stability of character - Brandon listed the following as some of his perceived weaknesses: (i) He cannot get motivated when not doing something that he likes. (ii) He sometimes needs a bit of a push to get going on tasks - He is open and ideally would like to go abroad to study (for example to Canada where he has relatives), but money may be a deciding factor here. - I discussed the results of the VoSPA assessment with Brandon, specifically his scores in the various categories of Interests, Intelligence Types, Values, and Work Styles. His scores can be reviewed in the report itself. - Here are some of the careers that the VoSPA assessment recommended for Brandon, and how He rated these careers in terms of his interest level and passion, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest (his ideal career):

Ship Captain (9/10) Takeaways from Session #1: - Brandon liked the process of doing the assessment and then discussing the possible careers it recommended in a one-on-one session. Action Plan from Session #1: - Brandon will review the VoSPA report in more detail and research on the Internet the recommended careers above which he scored 7 or more out of 10. - Brandon also agreed to consider doing the MEIQ assessment in a future session. - Brandon agreed to another session on Tuesday May 1, 2012 at 11:00 AM.

Career Coaching Session #2: Tuesday May 1, 2012

- Ideally, Brandon would like a career where he works with people, and where he can still have his own family. - He is open and would like to go abroad to study (for example to Canada where he has relatives), but money may be a deciding factor here. - Brandon mentioned that he applied for a temporary job at a bookstore in Trinidad and he recently was told that he got the job. I commended him for that move because it will keep his mind occupied while he completes the process of career discernment. - Here are some of the careers that the VoSPA assessment recommended for Brandon that he is still interested in, and three additional ones:

- During our session, Brandon took half hour to research some of the above careers and to enter some of his notes in this blog, which I commended him for doing. I encouraged him to complete this process before our next session, which he ensured me he would do. Takeaways from Session #2: - Brandon liked the process of researching the various careers that still interested in from the assessment. Action Plan from Session #2 - Brandon agreed to review the VoSPA report in more detail - He agreed to continue his research on the Internet the recommended careers above which he scored 7 or more out of 10. - He also agreed to consider doing the MEIQ assessment in a future session. - Brandon agreed to another session on Tuesday May 15, 2012 at 9:00 AM.
