Career Coaching Session #1: Friday 23 October 2015

- Michael's E-mail address is michaellezama123@gmail.com - He is 15 years old, currently attends Fatima College, and is in Form 4. - Michael shared with me that he is having difficulties controlling his temper at home because he often feels trapped whereas he likes to have space. - He found that he was a lot happier and in control when he was in primary school. HE then found that when he went to secondary school, he was expected to behave in a certain way, and he is still trying to adjust to that. - Michael then proceeded to complete the Multidimensional Emotional IQ - Abridged assessment (MEIQ-Ab) during the session. The report was then printed, and discussed with Michael. His overall results were as follows:

IQ score = 102
Percentile score = 58 (meaning that he scored better than 58% of the people who have completed this assessment)

- Michael's score on this assessment is satisfactory, but there is room for improvement. Overall, he is adequately skilled at understanding and dealing with emotions, but he needs to further develop his skills. - I asked Michael if he knew what careers might interest him. He said there were quite a few careers he has thought about and he is somewhat confused. I asked him if he would like to complete the Vocational Style and Career Assessment for Students (VoSCA-St), and he said yes. I suggested that this be done at our next session when he comes into my office, and he agreed. Acknowledgements from Session #1: - I acknowledged Michael for completing the MEIQ-Ab assessment. - I also acknowledged him for coming to these Life Coaching sessions to get a better understanding of his emotions and what career path he would like to pursue. Takeaways from Session #1: - Michael liked the process of doing the assessment and feels that he has a better self-awareness of his strengths and limitations. Action Plan from Session #1: - Michael agreed to review the MEIQ-Ab report in more detail. - He also agreed to pick five emotional IQ limitations that he would like to work on over the next year. - Michael agreed to complete the Vocational Style and Career Assessment for Students (VoSCA-St) at our next session when he comes into my office. - The next session was scheduled for Wednesday 11 November 2015 at 3:00 PM.

- I asked Michael if he had thought about any careers of interest up until this point in his life, and he said these are the following in chronological order:

- Michael said that he likes children in general. - I then discussed the results of the VoSCA-St assessment with Michael, specifically his scores in the various categories of Interests, Intelligence Types, Values, and Work Styles.
